National Contracting conquers the Midlands

'Leicestershire County Council has awarded a long-term highways maintenance and improvement contract to Tarmac and the Highways Agency has also appointed Tarmac for its Midlands Framework 3 contract.

Leicestershire County Council appointed Tarmac preferred bidder for its Highways Maintenance Contract and the Highways Agency awarded Tarmac its Midlands Framework 3 contract.

Part of the approach to winning the Leicestershire bid involved a DVD presentation, delivered by the people who would be directly responsible for managing the contract. This extra special touch to the bid set Tarmac aside from the competition and left Leicestershire feeling that they wanted to work with us.

The Highways Maintenance Contract has a potential value of £80 million over the next 10 years and will involve Highway Surfacing, patching, civil engineering, grass cutting and other ancillary works.

In addition, maintaining the Midlands motorways as part of the Highways Agency's Midlands Framework 3 Contract will be worth around £30 million over the three-year contract period.

Not only will these contracts boost National Contracting's National Maintenance portfolio, they will also develop Tarmac's long-term order book and secure medium and long-term sales for Aggregate Products.

National Contracting director Paul Fleetham said: "I would like to thank everyone that has contributed to these successes. Both these bids required significant effort and input from the Midlands team together with the Commercial Services department. I would also like to thank our Aggregate Products colleagues in the Midlands and Midland Quarry Products for the support they provided throughout the tender process on both contracts."
