Tarmac worker surfacing asphalt on road

Asphalt Surfacing

Asphalt surfacing is at the core of our business and as the largest surfacing contractor in the UK, with over 100 years experience in the industry and thousands of successful contracts annually we have the resources to deliver whatever the environment.

We are at the forefront in the application of surfacing materials, both traditional and contemporary, and our surfacing operation is the UK market leader by volume, laying approximately 3.5 million tonnes of asphalt per annum. We have a long established record of working in a wide variety of environments, which include major new-build highway projects, airfield surfacing, lane rental type motorway and trunk road reconstruction schemes as well as smaller scale surfacing works such as non-trunk roads, residential streets, industrial estates and car parks. Such projects are undertaken for both the public and private sectors and involve a range of activities both as main contractor and as a major subcontractor.

Our surfacing operations are fully accredited to BS EN ISO 9001: 2000 (BSI Certificate No FS 34821) and to the National Highway Sector Scheme 16 requirements. Contracting resources are supported and supplied in asphalt by our own large network of material supply units and as we manufacture our own surfacing materials our supply chain is very short ensuring better communication, quality control and delivery.

We also have the support from the Tarmac Group Technical Centre, a research and development centre based in Wolverhampton, which provides support and technical back-up to all aspects of our day-to-day operational business. It is structured to ensure Tarmac remains at the leading edge of developments in materials and paving technology, pavement design and standards and specification issues and offers its customers an unrivalled service of technical support and advice.

We are committed to doing the job right first time every time and we can offer a service where quality, safety and good communication are guaranteed.
