As one of AMScott's first tier supply chain partners, Tarmac undertakes all aspects of motorway and trunk road maintenance work across Area 7. Tarmac is involved with each initial scheme design, production of budget costs, joint walk through inspections, the procurement of a supply chain, programming, managing and supervising the works and the preparation of hand-over documents.

A52 Holme House to RSPCA, Nottinghamshire

Tarmac was required to re-surface 400m of both carriageways of the dual A52 in Gamston. The scheme design had identified a 180mm layer of tarbound material that would cost £110 per tonne to safely dispose of. Based on advice given by Tarmac's in-house technical team, it was agreed to excavate, recycle and re-use the material as a lower layer FoamMaster base.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport Runway Strengthening

Liverpool John Lennon Airport Runway Strengthening

Working five or six nights a week, possession of the runway commenced at 23.30hrs with cold milling, by NRP. Upon completion, at approximately 01.00 hrs, laying commenced with three paving machines laying in echelon formation. The runway had to be handed back by 06.00hrs and therefore surfacing was programmed to be complete by 04.30hrs.

The Project Brief was to work in partnership with Renfrewshire Council to provide optimum levels of highway maintenance and upgrade work.

 

Moulton Paddock

Carriageway Widening at Moulton Paddocks Estate

Widening of existing B1506 Bury Lane, over 285 m, to give 3 No. 3.5m traffic lanes and 1m hardshoulder, providing a filter lane for the entrance to Moulton Paddocks Estate. The width of the widening varied from zero to 4.5m.

This work had to be completed using weekend restrictions to the runway.  Tarmac were asked to excavate and dispose on site, the existing concrete construction of Taxiway Charlie and replace with 200mm wet lean and 350mm PQ Concrete and install new taxiway surface markings.

EME2 on the M9 / A90 Spur

Tarmac were the specialist subcontractor awarded a £6.2m contract by Morrison Construction to undertake all surfacing works on the M9 / A90 Spur. Almost 200,000 tonnes of asphalt were laid over a 12 month period that included 27,300 tonnes of high strength, long life EME2 along heavily laden sections of the A90.

FETA's Project Brief was to avoid carriageway occupation during weekdays and the peak holiday period.  To maintain flows of weekday traffic the Works had to be completed in two phases during a series of weekend carriageway possessions.
Possessions were not permitted during the peak holiday period and therefore Phase 1 was completed between April and June with Phase 2 completed during September and October.

Suffolk County Council has traditionally used hot-rolled asphalt for re-surfacing their roads across the County. However, to assist with the County's ambition of being one of the greenest in the country, the A1094 was identified as a suitable location to trial the use of FoamMaster.

In order to enlarge the existing North Apron a previously undeveloped, greenfield area of the site was excavated to an average depth of 1250mm. This required the removal of existing lighting columns (and their reinforced bases), AGL lighting and associated cabling.

Upgrade of existing paved areas within the confines of the busy Newcastle working airport environment, over a winter nightime, five month project.

 

Emmanuel College used Laserpave for their sports pitches

Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) at Emmanuel College, Gateshead

Following site preparation work, a 300mm thick layer of Type 3 reduced fines Granular Sub base was laid, with the final 50mm laid using the Lazerpave system. This layer provided the platform for the permeable asphalt layers and allowed drainage of water through to the subsoil.

 

London Airport

London City Airport - Western Apron Extension

Project aims was to construct three additional Aircraft Stands on the Western Apron at London City Airport. The project required partial demolition of the old Ground Services building and extension of the existing perimeter security fence to enclose the redundant Old Hartman Road access, and thus provide the extra footprint for the new stands to be constructed.

A21 / A2100 Johns Cross Junction Improvement

Tarmac was required to re-model a complex and unorthodox series of give-way junctions into a roundabout. In order to facilitate the new horizontal alignment of this roundabout a length of the A21 Trunk Road required realignment.
