Construction

In the factory lime is used in the production of:

- Autoclaved aerated concrete blocks
- Calcium Silicate Bricks
- Plaster boards
- Finishing plaster
- Calcium Silicate Insulation products

On the construction site lime products are components of:

- Mortars for bedding
- Mortars for external rendering
- Mortar for internal plastering

On major civil engineering projects lime is increasingly used as:

Soil Stabilisation

Stabilisation of weak, clays and other marginal soils with quicklime (Limbase grade), or Limbase and cement is an environmentally beneficial way of making them suitable for use within the construction process.

Improvements made are:

- Increase of shear strength and bearing capacity
- Reduction of susceptibility to shrinkage and swelling
- Improved resistance to weather and traffic
- Reduction of water content to improve strength, workability and compaction.

The benefits to be gained are:

- Dramatic reduction in the requirement to import fill and granular subbase materials
- Avoidance of muck shifting and tipping charges
- Treatment of contaminated soils
- Minimising the effect of wet weather
- Greatly reduced environmental impact
- Avoidance of the aggregate tax
- Reduction in construction traffic
