Project brief:

Derby City Council has funded the construction of an £8.4m state-of-the-art primary school in Derby. The building is on the site of the former Village Community School amalgamating three
existing city primary schools onto one site. The new school has been designed with many eco-friendly elements with low CO2 emissions a priority. Another important design element to the
school was colour, giving pupils a vibrant learning environment. As the project was a brand new school, the surfaces needed to be hard wearing yet low maintenance. 

Tarmac's Solution:

Tarmac Mastertint was specified to develop and mark out distinctive pathways and play areas in response to Derby City Council's brief. The coloured asphalt provides a bright outline pathway to the school, including a buff gravel perimeter path, and gives pupils a series of colourful outdoor play areas.

Tarmac supplied 150 tonnes of Mastertint Classic Buff to provide the effective demarcation of pathways, play areas and boundary marking. The Mastertint was laid by BDP Surfacing, part of the Tarmac Group. The full depth coloured asphalt has created a safe and attractive area that will serve the community's school children for years to come.
