GMI Construction Pedestrian Access
Client: GMI Construction
Contractor: South Yorkshire Tarmacadam Contractors
Location: Carlton Industrial Estate, Barnsley
Value of project: £40,000
Duration: 3 days
Completion: July 2008
Project Brief:
After a new business unit with offices was built in Carlton Industrial
Estate, the client, GMI Construction, expressed a need for a clear
pedestrian access which is also aesthetically pleasing. A skirting
area for the business unit was also required, to provide a clear
boundary between the fabric of the building and the rest of the
business park.
Tarmac’s Solution:
In response to the brief set down by GMI Construction, Tarmac
developed a 25mm thick, clear pedestrian walkway that gave
office workers a safe place to walk to and from their workplace,
negating the risk of accidents with motorists in the nearby
car park.
White Mastertint was specified to develop and mark out a
distinctive pathway. The contrast between the asphalt provided a
clear direction and divide for pedestrians. It also provided a clear
boundary between the fabric of the building and surrounding
walkways.
Tarmac supplied 65 tonnes of White Mastertint to provide the
effective demarcation of the pedestrian area which measured no
more than 1.5 metres in width.
With the project taking place inside a newly built business park,
it was important to create an aesthetically pleasing product,
which was specifically asked for by the client. Selecting an easy to
lay, hard wearing and attractive surface was of prime importance.
Laid on the existing pathway, the full depth White Mastertint
created a safe and attractive pedestrian area that will serve the
business park for many years to come.
