Tarmac HQ

Company Information

Tarmac currently operates more than 180 quarries and sand and gravel operations in the UK, Europe and the Far East. It's a diverse range of resources that means we can supply aggregates for every eventuality...

This includes asphalt, ready mixed concrete and mortar, as well as the more specialist uses of aggregates, iincluding sea defences, sports field applications, agricultural lime, rail ballast and decorative finishes.

Tarmac is also a market leader in the promotion and supply of recycled aggregates throughout the UK, via our network of recycling depots. Here, construction and demolition wastes are processed for re-use in a variety of construction applications, helping to preserve our primary aggregate reserves.

Our sustainable aggregate solutions are strengthened even further by our industrial slag operations in South Wales and North East England. This is where we take the by products from iron and steel manufacture, and then use as aggregate in a wide range of construction applications.

With over 3.2 billion tonnes of quarry reserves worldwide, Tarmac is a global leader in the extraction and processing of crushed rock aggregate. In the UK alone, we produce in excess of 48 million tonnes of aggregate each year.

In the UK our hardstone resources are used in road building, for rail ballast and as armour stone for sea and river defences. Premium crushed rock aggregate is used in precast concrete structures and for the manufacture of asphalt and ready-mixed concrete.

Using fast rail loading facilities, we can supply aggregates from some of our larger quarries to major customers and depots efficiently, with minimum impact on the local environment

'Tarmac has also recently fully acquired UMA, previously a joint venture company, and now supplies over four million tonnes of dredged aggregates every year.
