WAITING IN STYLE IN BROOM

Public transport users in the Bedfordshire village of Broom are waiting, rather than travelling, in style thanks to local quarry operators Tarmac, who donated funds towards a new bus shelter.

The local parish council approached Tarmac's Broom quarry for help with the shelter and the team was more than happy to help, donating 3,000 to cover the cost of building it.

"We were really pleased to help out in donating money for the bus shelter," said quarry manager Alan Baker; "particularly in the winter months when everyone needs all the shelter they can get!"

Parish Councillors, Alan and his colleague Simon Chaffe all headed to the new bus stop last week to try it out for themselves.

Senior estates surveyor Simon said: "It's always great to support people local to our quarries, and to ensure Tarmac is a meaningful part of each community. It's great to see the bus shelter being so well used."

Mark Egar, chairman for Southill Parish Council added: "The bus shelter was greatly needed, and we appreciate Tarmac's kind support. It's really important for us to maintain good relationships between ourselves, companies like Tarmac, and the local community, and this is working very well in Broom."
